Zen Somatics: The Body as Koan
In this non-residential retreat, we'll focus on getting to the bottom of pervasive obstructions in the body/mind that prevent us from meditating deeply, prevent us from relating freely, and prevent us from our natural happiness and joy.
In this endeavor, we will treat barriers to freedom as we would a koan, that is as a problem which has no logical answer but must be embodied to be resolved.
We'll employ silent and guided meditation techniques, breath exercises and extensive dialogue designed to help reveal what part of our self is causing the confusion and obstruction and what is the source of it.
No prior experience is necessary.
You may bring a pad or yoga mat; this will enable you to lay flat more comfortably if preferred for certain exercises. However, students are welcome to remain seated, and may take all portions of the retreat offerings from their seats.
Led by Roshi Al Rapaport, a Zen Teacher and developer of the Zen Dialogue Technique. He has taught internationally, presenting this highly effective method, for over 30 years. This retreat is a prerequisite for the Zen Dialogue Facilitator Training.
